Free Summer Reading Logs for Kids (8 PDF Options)

So, summer’s coming. Which means 1) your kids are about to forget how to read, and 2) your school is probably sending home a reading log that will disappear faster than a popsicle in July. I got you. I made some cute, simple, not annoying summer reading logs you can actually use. They’re free, printable, and work for all ages—even the ones who pretend they “don’t like books” (spoiler: they just haven’t met the right book yet).

Printable summer reading logs for kids

These reading logs aren’t just for checking a box or bribing your kid with screen time. If you’re getting IEP progress reports that say your child is making “great gains in reading” but you’re at home sounding out “cat” for the tenth time…these logs are your new best friend.

Use them to track what books your child is reading (or being read to), how long they read, what supports you had to give (like reading it to them, using audio, explaining vocabulary), and their general comprehension. This gives you real, concrete data to compare with the school’s IEP progress notes. Because if the school says your kid is independently reading on grade level, but you’re still doing all the heavy lifting at home…well, something doesn’t add up. And you’ll have the documentation to prove it.

Summer Reading Logs

I had these reading logs made up, because it’s always my goal to make your life easier! And, science and psychology both tell us that habit trackers and checklists help to change behavior.

So these are really simple. Just check off how long or how many pages.
