Special Education Professional Development Hours
Currently, these are the courses are set up to offer continuing education credits.
- How to Collect Meaningful IEP Data in the Busy Classroom (3 CEC, just upgraded last month)
- How to Write IEP Present Levels (5 CEC, just upgraded last month)
- IEP Progress Monitoring for Teachers (6 CEC, currently being upgraded)
- How to Write Strong, Measurable IEP Goals (Free 2 CEC/PD Training, currently being upgraded)
- IEP Foundations (10 CEC)
Additionally, we are reviewing the entire Don’t IEP Alone course catalog to determine which sessions are appropriate to be added to the CEC/PD offering. In particular, the recorded sessions from attorneys and related service providers will be prioritized.
💡 Note: Final acceptance of CEC hours is determined by your district or state. Please check with your administrator.
What Are CEC Hours?
CEC (Continuing Education Credit) hours refer to professional development time that may be used toward certification renewal, salary advancement, or district professional development (PD) requirements depending on your state and school policies.
Depending on your location or licensing body, you might see CECs referred to as:
For Educators
- PD Hours (Professional Development Hours)
- CEUs (Continuing Education Units)
- SCECHs (State Continuing Education Clock Hours – e.g., Michigan)
- Act 48 Credits (Pennsylvania)
- PDPs (Professional Development Points – e.g., Massachusetts)
- Clock Hours (common in Washington, Oregon, and others)
- CPDUs (Continuing Professional Development Units – Illinois term prior to 2014)
- Inservice Hours or In-Service Training Credit
- Staff Development Credit
Do Our Courses Qualify?
Our online courses are designed to meet the criteria for professional learning across most U.S. school districts. Presently we have had teachers in Kentucky, Indiana, Colorado and Ohio tell us that their district accepted these hours.
We provide a Certificate of Completion for each eligible course that includes:
- Course title and description
- Learning objectives
- Instructional hours
- Instructor name and credentials
- Date of completion
State Approvals & Updates
We are actively applying for approval in several states. Here’s the current status:
- Michigan – Application submitted, awaiting decision
- Connecticut – CLE/CEC agency collaboration in process
- Pennsylvania – Act 48 agency collaboration in process
- Illinois – Application to ISBE in progress
- All Other States – Our certificates can often be submitted for district-level PD approval without formal provider registration
Documentation and Recordkeeping
We retain course completion records and documentation for 6+ years, in accordance with best practices. If your district or licensing body requires additional verification, we are happy to help.
