Well, it seems I have made up my mind on this issue. At the end of last week (see below) I wrote about how I was still gathering information about SB 76 but hadn’t read enough to make up my mind. That has changed. I have read all I need to read. My initial gut reaction (which was to oppose SB 76) was correct. What sealed the deal for me–when I learned that the following groups also oppose this bill:
Education Voters of PA, Education Law Center, Feeding Pennsylania, many food banks, PA Council of Churches…I could go on and on. But those groups generally align with my principles and opinions, and when several dozen of them collectively oppose something, then chances are I oppose it as well.
So your action steps, if you agree and want to try to save our (admittedly broken) education funding system…here you go. Sure, I can rant all day about education funding, but I think this solution is worse than the existing problem.
Read the fact sheet: Facts-on-HB-76
Then contact your legislators and ask them to oppose it.
And as always, you can tweet it out:

Original post from 4/4/14:
Ok, so this issue just hit my radar recently, I’ve been crazy busy. And honestly, I don’t even know where I stand on this issue, yet. But, it involves funding education so I feel we must educate ourselves. As Pennsylvanians, this will also affect our property taxes, income taxes and sales taxes! Wow! All three in one bill.
This morning I got an email from the PA Budget and Policy Center. They were encouraging me to lobby my legislators to vote NO on SB 76.
That’s alarming, no? Anything that is going to give tax breaks to Walmart, you know I’m going to oppose it! But, as I was reading this, I remembered that my Facebook friend Liz had posted something about this the other day. So I went to her wall to check.
Well, whaddya know….she is actually FOR this bill. So I started a dialogue with her, and she shared this information page with me-the Pennsylvania Taxpayers Cyber Coalition. That group, along with the PA Realtors Association is asking you to lobby FOR SB 76. So where do I stand? I don’t know. The PTCC video is 41 minutes long. I don’t have time right now to view it all, and truth be told, it is a propoganda video. It’s all propoganda…so which are we going to believe?
I’d love to hear your opinions! Please leave a comment on how you feel about these bills.
One thing that hasn’t changed–I hate Walmart. You can always count on me for that!
