The Tuesday to-do list is back!
“Back? What is this? I’ve never seen it before,” you might be thinking to yourself.
Yes, it’s back. For a long time, every Tuesday, I would do a blog post with an action item about citizen lobbying and disabilities issues. Then, honestly, my give a damn broke. I just got burned out, had a few losses, so I took a break from it. Before I knew it, weeks turned into months…and then it was election season. When you have a big as an election year that we just had (so many important seats up for vote) then not too much gets done in government.
But, I’m back!
And guess what….not liking what I am seeing so far, just 3 weeks since the election. What I am seeing so far, it’s going to be a nightmare.
Ok, it has been a while, I obviously need a new graphic. That one is awful. Oh well, by next week.
Our President elect has started to name some of his appointees. I don’t know which is worse.
Many disabilities advocacy groups, such as ASAN, have denounced both nominees.
I am asking you to read up on the nominees, and if you disagree that they are bad for us, call or email your legislators. It’s that easy. Just 10-15 minutes a week to advocate for disabilities.
Betsy DeVos-Secretary of Education
I don’t even know where to start, she’s such a bad choice I could rant for days. Bottom line is–she has zero interest in learning what needs to be done in public education and how to fix it. She has one goal–take all that money that is used for public education and funnel it to her private interests. You can read more about her here.
Jeff Sessions-Attorney General
Please read what the Autism Self Advocacy Network has posted about this. It’s succinct, and really, do we need to know anything else? Not like Alabama every ranks near the top of anything….so he can’t even fix things in his home state.
Yes, I will be bringing this up again next year when it is the official confirmation time. But, for the time being, it’s a good idea to contact your people now and let them know that you disapprove of this.
Everything you need to contact your Congressperson and 2 Senators is right here.
And that’s it….Please do this for our kids.
