Here we are, Unit 12. This is an idea that I’ve wanted to put together for years, and putting the “The End” is leaving me with a bit of an empty feeling. Know that this will always be a work in progress. I have to continually update links, add new information and I’m sure that I have more spelling and grammar checks to do. It is a work in progress.
I hope that all of this gives you more knowledge and confidence to start lobbying for something you are passionate about. Because, now, more than ever, citizen lobbying is desperately needed. Princeton just released a study that proves what we all thought–that Congress is listening to lobbyists and not citizens. We must speak up, now.
Education, climate change, health care, the environment, poverty….there certainly is no shortage of issues for citizens to talk about. Find what speaks to you, what lights your spark? It’s ok if your passions evolve and change over time, of course they will! It’s our life events that define us and help mold who we become and what we love.
As Gandhi said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
Because after all, if not you, who?
I’ll wrap this up with some words from Kirsten Gillibrand:
