It’s an unfortunate reality, but just by having a disability of some kind, a person is more likely to be incarcerated, more likely to be suspended from school, more likely to have unpleasant encounters with law enforcement…over 60% of our prison population is mentally ill and about 75% are functionally illiterate, according to the ASHA. Because of this, many attorneys are becoming more educated about disabilities such as autism and mental illness, in order to help these folks. Hopefully you’ll never need this list, but felt it was an important enough resource that you should have access to it just in case.
This is a list of criminal defense attorneys who are willing to accept referrals in criminal law, and have stated that they have experience or an interest in representing clients who have diagnoses including, Mental Health Challenges, Autism, Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities.
