On Friday night, I took my boys to see Yo Gabba Gabba live in Upper Darby at the Tower Theater. Overall we had a fantastic time, and my only complaints have nothing to do with YGG, but the weather.
It was snowing. The weather man said a dusting to 2″ and I believed him. And that is really all we got. However the timing was just awful because it started around 3 and we needed to leave around 4. Combine snowy roads and Philly Friday rush-hour traffic, and it took us FOREVER to get there. Then, once we did get there, since we were very late, we had to park on top of the downtown parking garage–ie not the covered portion! I realize the Tower is an older venue, and overall I don’t have a problem going there. But when it’s snowy, slippery, dark, cold and you’re stressed because you’re late….not many places would be ideal.
Unfortunately we missed the entire first half of the show and got there during intermission. My boys didn’t even seem to notice that, they just thought we got there before it started. Brian did cry when it was over and said he wanted more. I felt like such an awesome parent at that point for being so late!
The show itself is awesome. This is the second time we’ve seen the YGG show and I just love watching their faces light up when they see all the characters and DJ Lance come on stage, and they realize it’s live, not on tv. We went as a big group, as my ticket winner is actually a friend of mine. She said her kids still won’t stop talking about it. My favorite part of course is when Biz Markie comes on, as he has done in both shows I’ve seen. I remember listening to him in college and it’s fun to have that connection with my kids all these years later. And it makes the show just more interesting and fun to watch, for me. My second favorite part is the song “Bugs.”
My 6 year old is non-verbal, so he hasn’t told me his favorite parts. But he was bouncing in his seat to many of the songs. My 3 year old had a blast! I just loved loved loved watching him dance to the one song where DJ Lance tells them to walk, then jump, then skip. He was doing it all and having so much fun. Like I said, he cried when it was over. So if I had one complaint, even if I did miss the first half, overall I would like the show to be longer. Each half is only about 30-35 minutes, I think 45 would be nice. But overall I definitely recommend you go see Yo Gabba Gabba Live if it comes to your city.
